About Us..........

Hi I'm Julie Kelly

In August 2010 I decided to set up the Community Care Welfare Rights service for asylum seeker & refugee communities.
My experience of working with asylum seeker and refugee communities spans over 25 years and I am a fully qualified practitioner.

It was my strong belief and committment in promoting the protection of Human Rights, that prompted me to set up this independent service as I believe that everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect irrelevant of their status in the UK.
Simply standing back and defending Human Rights abuse is not enough, unless you are prepared to do something about it which is why in Feb 2010 I decided to leave my job with Manchester Local Authority to travel India.

Whilst in India, I spent 6 months living in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, home to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet and there I lived and worked within the Tibetan community. Every Tibetan living in India is a refugee in exile, many having suffered extreme abuse and torture at the hands of the Chinese government before escaping to the sanctuary of India.
Whilst in Dharamsala I undertook Human Rights work and also taught English language to Tibetan monks. Additionally I became a scholar of Tibetan Buddhism within the Dalai Lama's own Monastery.
All of the work I did in India was voluntary and was a great learning experience for me. More importantly, the Human Rights work gave me a much clearer perspective on what really matters in life.

On returning to the UK I made the decision to set up
independently specialising in social care matters within asylum seeker and refugee communities.
Throughout my 25 years employment in and around Manchester, I have worked with people from many countries including; Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Nigeria, Libya, Pakistan & Kurdistan and so I am very aware of some of the problems facing asylum seekers on both a personal and political level.

Many people have told me how they lost hundreds of pounds to solicitors, believing they would help their case only to find that later the bogus practitioners disappeared along with hard earned cash.
I am extremely proud to say, that in and around Manchester, my reputation is excellent and I am certain this will be confirmed if you ask around.

My only aim on setting up this service, is to offer a high quality service at a fraction of the cost you would usually pay.
In my experience, I have found very few agencies who do actually offer constructive help to asylum seekers, especially those who have failed their appeals or asylum claims yet many claim to do so.
Of the few agencies that I have managed to contact, all tell me that those who they support are not in a position to pay for the service I offer yet in reality everyone knows this is just not true.
In my experience, many people seeking asylum in the UK do not consider living off benefits as an option. The first reason being that there is no entitlement to public assistance whilst you are seeking asylum, and the second reason being because many asylum seekers are often very highly skilled and do actually work in order to live. [THIS IS ILLIGAL UNDER UK LAW.]

On many occasions I have been ridiculed for asking what I believe are 2 sensible questions.........

1- How can it be damaging to allow people to work whilst their asylum claims are being assessed?

2- Why make it illegal for these people to work, when they will be paying tax back into the country?

It is common knowledge that the United Kingdom is struggling financially, some may believe we are on the brink of recession, and the main source of the blame is always placed on 'Immigration' and the number of 'immigrants' coming into the country. Why then, when we have a high number of people seeking asylum in the UK do we make it illegal for them to work whilst awaiting the outcome of their case? I have my own beliefs on this issue but if I print them I will shatter all my chances of ever becoming prime minister.

ABOUT THE SERVICE
The Community Welfare Rights service is designed to help people who need advice, support & practical help e.t.c. at a manageable cost.
[Please Note: This service does not advocate illegal work nor do we suggest that people who are seeking asylum work illegally.]

So...What makes the service unique?

One of the things that makes our service unique, is the fact that there will be no waiting around in long queues for hours for a 10 minute appointment with an advisor.
If you work with us, you will have an appointment date and time that suits you where you will be able to discuss your situation fully with a qualified professional worker.

At the meeting you will be told how long the work will take and how much it will cost, and after this there will be no unpleasent surprises e.g. no hidden extras.
All the work we do is completely confidential and guaranteed to be of a very high standard.

Why not give us a call and see what you think!

I look forward to speaking with you in the future
